The Best Reasons To Volunteer At Dreamsea Surf Camp, Costa Rica

1. Minimalist Living

Our motto at Dreamsea is “Collect moments, not things”, so it’s no surprise that our lifestyle here reflects that.

Through creating memorable experiences for our guests and volunteers, we emphasize the importance of life’s intangible joys.

Possessions and expensive things become less significant with each passing day as people fill their souls with knowledge, human connection, spiritual awareness, and test their bodies with yoga, surfing, hiking, and other forms of exercise.

The simplicity of living in the moment and disengaging from a materialistic lifestyle brings travelers a sense of freedom that is truly priceless.

2. Exciting Nightlife

A wonderful aspect of traveling is mingling with locals and other foreigners in the thrilling setting of a night out.

Tamarindo is full of fun clubs and bars with different activities to entertain people when the sun goes down.

We often provide a free shuttle into town around 10pm so everyone can enjoy the nightlife as a group, and there is never a shortage of things to do.

Tuesday nights are for karaoke at Sharky’s Sports Bar, Wednesday nights are for reggae music at Pacifico Night Club, and Friday nights are for salsa dancing, live music, and fire shows at Crazy Monkey Bar.

Some events are free, some cost only 1000 or 2000 colones, but a night out with the Dreamsea crew is always a night to remember.

3. Amazing Food

The food at Dreamsea is to die for, with a changing dinner menu and a consistently delicious, hearty breakfast daily.

Campers literally race to the dining area to line up for the meals, whether it be Peruvian night, pasta night, vegetarian night, or Mexican night.

Tamarindo town also offers some wonderful food options, from huge boxes of cheap street food served out of the back of a car to fine dining restaurants.

For budget travelers, crowd favorites are empanadas for 1000 colones or fresh coconuts for 500-1000 colones.

On Saturdays, the town also has a farmer’s market full of interesting artisan goods and traditional Costa Rican delicacies.

4. Surf Lessons/Excursions

Of course, a surf camp makes surfing a daily priority, but Dreamsea is located in the perfect place for surfers of any level.

Tamarindo beach has consistent, easy waves for beginners to hop on a board for the first time.

Our surf instructors come from all over the world to volunteer their time and expertise to teach the sport to anyone who wants to learn, and Dreamsea’s board rentals and close proximity to the beach make the process even easier.

For more advanced surfers, other beaches with more powerful waves like Playa Grande and Playa Langosta are located within walking distance of Tamarindo.

We also try to provide a weekly excursion to interesting surf spots in the Guanacaste region, like Playa Avellanas, Playa Negra, and Playa Junquillal.

5. Never-Ending Daily Surprises

Though we like to embark on day trips and excursions, sometimes it’s the little day to day activities that really make an impression on Dreamsea’s campers.

To switch things up, sometimes we leave the beach early to drive up to a viewpoint and watch the sunset while practicing yoga or tai chi.

Sometimes we bring a few trash bags to the beach and try to clean up trash as a team. Sometimes the shuttle comes back to camp in the early afternoon so we can have a fun day at Dreamsea, full of random games and activities.

Between campfires, jam sessions, talent shows, group workouts, parties, dancing contests, and meditations, there is never a dull moment when living at Dreamsea.

While all of these reasons to visit Dreamsea are valid, none of them would be possible without the people.

This unique place attracts a variety of different people from various corners of the globe and tosses all of us into a small space in the jungle, creating a melting pot of culture.

The unique personalities and habits and passions of all these people create the true fabric of Dreamsea, where we appreciate each other’s quirks rather than judge each other based on our differences.

The community-based approach to life here bonds people together as we spend quality time together from the time we wake until the time we fall asleep.

Travelers may come to Dreamsea alone, but they will undoubtedly leave with countless new friends that have the potential to last a lifetime.
